Japan Things To Do in Tokyo: Zojoji Temple and Tokyo Tower – Day 2 Part 3
In the previous two posts, I talked about things you can do on your second day in Tokyo with Asakusa Senso-ji Temple in the morning and the Sumida River Cruise after lunch. This post will be the third and last part for Day-2 in Tokyo. After arriving to Hinode area from the Sumida River cruise, you can go to Zojoji temple and the Tokyo Tower for panoramic view from the Main Observatory.
Zojoji Temple and Tokyo Tower are very close to each other, so you can visit both in a short time. I think you can go with Tokyo Metro but we preferred to go walking (around 30 minutes) to see the city. The iPhone GPS was our main route guide to every place we decided to go. Before you go there, you can also visit Hamarikyu garden which is very close to where the Sumida River cruise ended. I did not visit this garden as I was not aware of it when I was there but now seeing it in google map, I think you can stop by and take some nice photos there. For the Zojoji Temple It has a couple of cherry trees inside, You can then get some nice photos during the cherry blossom season (beginning of April). On the right side of the Temple, there is many small statues with colorful clothes and toys, I don’t know exactly what does it mean but it was interesting anyway to see it. I didn’t go inside the main temple where they pray, I just took some photos from outside and it was enough. Behind the small statues there is a street that will lead you to the Tokyo Tower. Two height choices are available in the Tokyo Tower, Main observatory (150m) and special observatory (250m). We went to the main observatory as we prefer to have a closer view to the city. The view was great, you can get some very nice panoramic picture from the top. While enjoying the view you can refresh yourself with an ice-cream, coffee or sweet cakes at the main observatory. We have been told that there is a live music and a DJ at night during the week. You may check directly the Tokyo Tower website for the full schedule. More high resolution photos of the Zojoji temple and The Tokyo tower taken with a Sony Nex-5 camera and a 18-200mm lens (sel18200) are available below.
In the next post I will talk about Tokyo Dome City, Koishikawa Korakuen Garden and Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building Observatory in Shinjuku.
